Podcasting is another effective marketing tool to reach a broader audience. Is podcasting right for your business?

Most marketing professionals are always looking for new ways to reach an audience. Social media like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and more all have their own niches for reaching selected targets. An idea, however, that often gets overlooked in the Internet marketing world is podcasting.

Sure, podcasting isn't for everyone. But consider this: In today's economy, a lot of people are either having to endure longer commutes to stay employed; or a lot of other people are remotely working from home. As far as the former goes, most people can only endure hearing the latest Rhianna song so many times on the radio while in the car on their way to work, before they want to puncture their own ear drums with whatever ball point pen may be within reach. So as an alternative, people are turning to things like audiobooks and podcasts for their commute time entertainment.

For the latter, those that are working from home on whatever PC or Mac that they have connected to their Wi-Fi network, many people are in a situation where they are at a home desk for 8 hours or more per day and also can't stand whatever Top 40 babble is being played all day on the radio. So, they turn to alternative sources of relaxation and entertainment while they work as well. 

Podcasting is a great way to get your message out to these people who are enduring long commutes, telecommuting, or even just the increasing number of listeners who are turning to podcasts in their free time because they enjoy it.

Social media, blogs, and all the traditional forms of advertisement are all great. But, why overlook a growing form of media like podcasting? They also allow your voice to be physically heard, which can increase a sense of connectivity with your target audience. It's another opportunity to get your message out there to an even greater number of people. Not to mention that the start-up costs are almost non-existent. All it requires is a headset or microphone, some minimal training, and an inexpensive software package, usually for under $100.
