Search engine optimization (SEO) tips...no tricks. Google doesn't like SEO tricks.

you are looking at search engine optimization, you'll want to keep in mind these five things.

1. You can't trick Google

Just accept the fact that you're not going to get around Google's algorithm and what it places a priority on. There are no "tricks" that you can use to immediately enhance your SEO. Furthermore, if you try any of those tricks, Google will punish your website. Remember what happened with the lyrics website RapGenius.com? They tried tricking Google and were punished immediately. Here's what Tech Crunch had to say right after Google brought down the hammer:

"Google hit back hard today after it learned lyrics site Rap Genius had been using dubious SEO tricks to attain top spots in search results. Now RapGenius.com doesn’t appear on the first page of results for a search of “Rap Genius,” and popular queries like “Jay-Z Holy Grail Lyrics” don’t bring up the startup like they used to."

RapGenious is back to being searchable again, but the point is that you don't want Google to do the same to your website.

2. SEO is long-term

That being said, understand that SEO isn't a short-term investment, period. If you want it to work, you're going to have to work long and hard to increase your page rank.

3. Content is key

The only real way you can increase your page rank is to create quality content. This will show Google that your website is updated, reliable, and worth of appearing on its search results page.

4. SEO works

When you take the aforementioned factors into account, SEO can and will work for your business. Just because it has changed a lot over the past few years, doesn't mean that it's completely lost its significance in digital marketing.

5. Help is there when you need it

Finally, you don't have to come up with an SEO strategy on your own. If you need help, there are plenty of SEO companies out there that would be happy to help.
