4 Search Engine Marketing Ideas that can Help Customers Find You

Search Engine MarketingLike any affiliate marketing business, you probably spend a sizable portion of your marketing budget making sure your marketing message reaches your target market. But how much attention do you pay to helping your target market find you? One proven method of helping prospective customers find you is search engine marketing. Here are four search engine marketing ideas that can help you to become successful.

Just because you build it doesn’t mean they’ll come.

Of course, affiliate marketers understand that having a website is an absolute must if people are to find them online. But it goes beyond just having a website. Even the best website in the ether is of little worth if prospective customers can’t find it on their favorite search engine. And it’s not enough that your site show up in the search engines. It has to show up on the first page of the search results or most internet searchers will simply never see it.

Supply and demand still rules.

One way to get your site listed organically on the first search engine results page (SERP) is to create numerous content pages on your site, each optimized for a particular keyword or keyword phrase. The idea here is to select keywords or phrases with a high value demand (number of searches each month), and a smaller real supply (number of web pages that are optimized for that keyword). The larger the gap between value demand and real supply, the better. At a minimum, value demand for a particular keyword or phrase should be 1,000. Otherwise, there just isn’t enough interest in that particular keyword or phrase to make it worthwhile.

An important caveat here is that content you deliver on these pages must be relevant, and it must deliver value to the reader. It’s not enough to just get visitors to a page where your affiliate links and banners appear. Visitors have to perceive a level of value in the content on that page or they will never seriously consider buying something through one of your affiliate links. It’s all about creating trust.

Money still talks.

Search Engine Results Page (SERP)Getting your site listed on page one of the SERP organically is great, but it does take time, effort, and patience. If you don’t want to wait, you can always turn to paid search to get your site listed at the top of the SERP.

Paid search usually involves bidding for advertising space. With this kind of paid search, businesses that pay the most appear in the sponsored links above, or adjacent to the organic search results.

With paid search, you’ll either pay a fee for each click through to your website (commonly referred to as PPC or Pay Per Click) or pay a fee for each time your ad appears in the search (commonly referred to as CPI or Cost Per Impression).

The hybrid approach.

For those who are on a limited budget, the organic approach is probably the most attractive. But to do that correctly takes time, effort, and patience. If you prefer the organic approach long term, but need to make some sales more quickly, you can simply use paid search as an interim approach while you build up your organic search results.
